An extraordinary riverside town

With a rich, vibrant history and a beautiful waterside setting, there is plenty for everyone to discover in Tewkesbury.

You can take in the stunning scenery by taking a stroll beside the River Severn, or a boat trip along the Avon.

Then head to Tewkesbury Abbey; an imposing feature of the town’s landscape for nearly 900 years. Renowned the world over for its fine Norman tower, ornate 12th Century ceiling and stunning stained glass windows, the Abbey is one of Gloucestershire’s most popular tourist attractions, second only to Gloucester Cathedral.

The Abbey is just the start of your insight into Tewkesbury's history which you can explore further through the town's museums, Heritage Centre, walking trails and other attractions.

Shopping in Tewkesbury combines an eclectic mix of independent retailers nestled between well-known high street names.

The town is renowned for its selection of specialist destination shops run by experts who are always keen to give visitors a helping hand to make sure they get exactly what they’re looking for.

Alison’s Bookshop and Music room in the High Street is an independent bookshop and sheet music supplier offering more than 20,000 titles over three floors.

For antiquarian and secondhand titles, head to Cornell Books a few doors away to browse through more than 30,000 books and thousands of Vintage Ordnance Survey Maps.

Sweet treats

If it’s a treat you’re after try Sweets & Treats to sample specially imported American candy as well as traditional boiled sweets, jellies and chocolates sold by the gram (or ounce!).

There are more chocolate treats to be had a short walk away at The Carousel and Café au Chocolat.

For something more savoury there are specialist meats and cheeses from around the world at the 1471 Delicatessen (plus Tewkesbury’s famous mustard!). Locally sourced meat is the focus for butchers Halfords and Kevin Mace.

For all of your baking and kitchen equipment, as well as great gift ideas, there is an unrivalled selection at the award-winning Tewkesbury Cook shop.

Special presents

There are gifts galore and plenty of inspiration for that special present at Cards & Gifts and Sapphire Gifts.

If it’s clothes or accessories you’re after, there’s the choice of several boutiques including Pretty Special, Kudos and Indika.

For some of the finest hand-made Oriental rugs and carpets sourced from around the world, call in to Jennings; a long established family business in Church Street.

If you looking to send flowers to that someone special then visit Bluebell Wood florist in Barton Street.

After all that shopping, you may feel the need to be pampered during your visit. Tewkesbury has a great selection of hairdressers, beauticians and nail bars to help you feel your best.

Market Days

The town’s twice-weekly Market is held on Wednesdays and Saturdays in the Spring Gardens car park just off the High Street. A Farmers’ & Craft Market is held on the 2nd Saturday of the month between February and December in the Abbey Lawns Car Park.
