York's historic streets come alive once again for the 2026 Ice Trail! Follow the trail of stunning hand-carved ice sculptures by this years sculptors, IceBox, as they take you round the city telling stories of York and its people.
A vibrant festival city with Roman roots and Viking past, York offers an adventure for everyone. Within the Grade I Viking city walls - the longest in the UK - is a bustling city full of treasures. Visitors must see the magnificent Early Gothic York Minister, which very unusually across Europe maintains much of its original stained glass and is the ecclesiastical centre of the Anglican Church in the North. York Castle, with its dark history, is also a must visit, sitting atop its bailey and keeping watch over the city below from the south. A historical and cultural hotspot, York has thirty world-class museums to explore including the Jorvik Viking Museum and National Railway Museum.
Right in the heart of the city is the narrow medieval street, The Shambles, which leads out into the award-winning Shambles Market. The rest of the city has a fantastic array of independent boutiques, cosy old pubs, cafes and tearooms including the world-famous Betty's!
