Famous from the BBC's much-loved and award-winning TV series, Gavin & Stacey, the popular seaside resort of Ynys y Barry (Barry Island). A favourite of Greenliners for many a year, both Barry and the small peninsula of Barry Island are a great place for a day out.
A island before the Victorians constructed docks that connected Barry island to the mainland, the area is an up-and-coming destination attracting Cardiff locals to its sandy beach, leafy parks, attractions and great independent shopping and dining. Be sure to check out the sandy crescent of Whitmore Bay or the less busy but equally beautiful Jackson's Bay or the pebble beach at Cold Knapp Bay.
More adventurous visitors will love Barry Island Pleasure Park, whilst history buffs will want to visit the War Museum or the remains of the 8th century chapel dedicated to St. Burac (after whom the island is believed to be named) - not much remains, but medieval Christians considered 4 pilgrimages to the chapel equivalent to 1 to Rome. For relaxation, why not try any one of Barry's many leafy parks.
Enjoy a fantastic day at Barry Island, famous for its golden beach, family-friendly amusements, and lively promenade. Relax on Whitmore Bay’s sandy shores, explore the charming beachfront shops, or grab an ice cream and take in the stunning coastal views. With classic seaside rides, arcades, and delicious fish & chips, Barry Island is the perfect spot for fun, sun, and sea air!
