National Trust Bodnant Garden or Llandudno

1 Days from just £32.00

Join us for a winters day out to the beautiful North Wales coast, taking in the ever-popular delightful Victorian seaside resort of Llandudno or Bodnant Gardens, one of the great British gardens and National Trust properties with its colourful winter gardens.

Largely unchanged for over a century, Llandundno's authentic Victorian seafront is one of Britain's finest. Stroll along the elegant promenade or down the longest pier in Wales as you look out onto the North Shore beach, perfectly framed by two headlands; the Great Orme and Little Orme. Over the former, a spectacular path carved into the cliff takes you to the West Shore beach.

The resort's genteel appearance is deceptive. Llandudno is bursting at the seams with things to see and do. Why not take the San Francisan style tramway or alpine cable car to the summit of the Great Orme Country Park and soak up the views? The Llandudno Museum and Gallery is a treasure chest of local history from prehistory to today. The immersive Home Front Experience museum takes you back in time to World War Two, whilst the Chocolate Experience is a perfect treat for those with a sweet tooth.

Nestling in the Snowdonian foothills, Bodnant Gardens is one of the great year-round British gardens. The estate was first recorded during the reign of James I. Having passed by marriage to the Forbes family in the mid-1700s, it was in 1792 that Colonel Forbes built an Italianate mansion to replace the existing house and developed the parkland around Bodnant Hall in the English Landscape style of the period.

However, it was following the purchase of the estate - at auction - by industrialist Henry Davis Pochin and his wife Agnes in 1874 that Bodnant took on the form you see today. The Pochin's grand vision led to the intimate corners, sweeping lawns, grand terraces and verdant woodland that make up the garden full of plants from near and far, including National Collections of Emborthriums and Eucryphia.

With the stunning backdrop of the frost and snow-covered Carneddau mountains of Eryri, Bodnant Gardens is a delight for the senses year-round and has one of the best regarded and most colourful winter gardens providing a haven of tranquility and relaxation.
