Spend a day in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside, visiting the delightful small town of Hay-on-Wye
Situated on the southern side of the River Wye at the northernmost point of the Brecon Beacons, Hay-on-Wye is one of the gems of the 'Marches'. Known throughout the world as 'the Town of Books', the town developed around the Norman castle built by the infamously treacherous lord, William de Breos. The castle has been the victim of several uprisings and captures by characters such as Welsh Prince Llewlyn ap Ioweth, Baron Simon de Montfort and King Edward II.
Modern Hay is renowned for its bookshops and the world famous Book Festival every spring. Along with the superb independent cafes and shops, make time to take in some of the best scenery that the borders have to offer!
